In Isaiah 13, Isaiah prophesizes the downfall of Babylon long before it rises to full power. It’s a sobering reminder that no kingdom, no matter how strong, is beyond God’s decisions. Be cautious when feeling mighty—we might get our priorities mixed up.

Isaiah 14 is a warning against pride. It’s a taunting song directed at the fallen king of Babylon. It reminds us all that arrogance will lead to a fall.

Isaiah 15 and 16 focus on Moab, a neighbor and sometime rival of Israel. Moab's refugees seek shelter, and Isaiah appeals to them to submit to Judah’s king. Moab refuses. Many times, pride can keep us from much-needed refuge.

Isaiah 17 contains a warning to Syria and the northern kingdom. Their alliance will not save them. Their cities will become ruins. When we hit rock bottom, we remember where our help comes from. Sometimes losing everything helps us find what truly matters.

Proverbs 5 is a prayer from a father to a son, warning against smooth talk and temptation—especially when it comes to women. The son is advised to focus on his own wife and be satisfied with her love. Temptation always promises more than it delivers.
