Day 16 - Exodus 1-3

The story begins with the Israelites thriving in Egypt—until a new Pharaoh, who didn’t know Joseph, decides to rain on their parade. Fearing their growing numbers, he enslaves them and orders all newborn Hebrew boys to be killed. But God’s plan is never thwarted! (Exodus 1)

Enter Moses (Exodus 2), a Hebrew baby with a destiny bigger than Pharaoh could imagine. Despite the king's decree, Moses’ brave mother hides him in a basket and sets him afloat on the Nile. The Pharaoh’s daughter finds him, feels compassion, and raises him as her own—right in the palace! God works in mysterious ways.

Moses grows up and sees his people suffering. One day, his fiery sense of justice leads him to defend a Hebrew slave, but it lands him in hot water. Fearing for his life, Moses flees to Midian, where he starts over as a shepherd (Exodus 2).

But God doesn’t forget his people—or his promises. While Moses is tending sheep, God shows up in a burning bush. God calls Moses to be the hero who will lead the Israelites to freedom (Exodus 3). Moses hesitates, offering excuses, but God reassures him: “I will be with you.” When we are feeling unsure the best place to go to get that extra boost of confidence is into a conversation with God.
