In Jeremiah 28, a false prophet named Hananiah breaks the wooden yoke Jeremiah is wearing. He claims that Judah will be free from Babylon in two years. Who gave him that information? God corrects him through Jeremiah, saying the true yoke is iron and cannot be broken by human words. False hope may feel good, but ultimately it is false. Hananiah dies shortly after.

In Jeremiah 29, Jeremiah sends a letter to the people exiled in Babylon. He tells them to settle down, build homes, and to be peaceful. God tells them their captivity will last 70 years. Sometimes, God’s plan doesn’t seem to come fast enough.

In Jeremiah 30, God shifts to words of comfort. The pain of exile will not last forever. Healing is coming.

A little folly outweighs wisdom. Ecclesiastes 10 explains that even a small act of foolishness can ruin a good reputation or overshadow a lifetime of wise choices. Leaders must choose their words and actions carefully.
