Ammon. Edom. Damascus. Kedar. Hazor. Elam. One after another face destruction due to pride. Power, borders, and alliances shift, but God’s justice remains constant. In Jeremiah 50, ironically, the nation God used to teach Israel a lesson, Babylon, is now in the hot seat. God promises to gather and restore His people. God can use anyone to fulfill His plans. Jeremiah 51. A powerful poetic chapter. The proud city, Babylon, that seemed untouchable will fall. Don’t be seduced by the world’s temporary success. Jeremiah 52, this final chapter revisits the fall of Jerusalem and the exile to Babylon. The temple is destroyed, and many are killed or deported. Song of Songs 5, the woman seeks her lover but cannot find him. Her desperate longing turns to anguish. The woman does not find him, at least not yet. With complete dedication and sacrifice she searches. This moment represents a relationship out of sync. Her longing grows deeper through separation. The same way we ache when we feel distance between God and us.
