In Lamentations 1, Jeremiah mourns the fall of Jerusalem. Once full of people, now the city sits abandoned. Her enemies mock her, and her friends have betrayed her.
In Lamentations 2, God’s righteous anger is described vividly. His temple destroyed, His people crushed.
In Lamentations 3, Jeremiah speaks in first person, like someone who’s been through the wringer. He feels targeted by God. His prayers go unheard. He’s physically broken, emotionally wrecked, and socially isolated. In the middle of all the pain, he switches to self-talk. He concludes: God doesn’t enjoy hurting people. He doesn’t crush for fun. He uses pain to seed growth.
In Song of Songs 6, The woman searches for her beloved again, and asks her friends. She finds him and describes their deep connection. Her beloved reaffirms her feelings.
