Israel looked like a growing vine, but instead of producing good fruit, it only showed how selfish the people had become. God doesn’t just want us to look good on the outside, He wants our hearts to be real and full of love for Him. In Hosea 11, this chapter shows God as a loving father who raised Israel with care, teaching them to walk, feeding them, and holding them close, but they do not appreciate HIm. Even though they deserve punishment, He cannot give up on them. His love is deep and full of mercy. In Hosea 12, Hosea reminds Israel about Jacob, their ancestor, who wrestled with God and came out changed. Israel now is acting the opposite. God asks why they won’t listen!? This psalm, Psalm 23, is one of the most loved in the Bible. David says that God is like a shepherd, leading him to green pastures and calm waters. Even in scary places, he’s not afraid because God is close.
