In Jonah 1, God tells Jonah to go warn the people of Nineveh, but Jonah runs the other way. A huge storm hits the ship he’s on, and the sailors realize Jonah is the cause. Jonah tells them to throw him into the sea, and as soon as they do, the storm stops. God sends a big fish to swallow Jonah, keeping him safe inside for three days. In Jonah 2, Inside the fish, Jonah prays. He thanks God for saving him from drowning and promises to obey. God commands the fish to spit Jonah onto dry land. In Psalm 30, David thanks God for lifting him up from trouble. He remembers that God’s anger is short, but His favor lasts a lifetime. Sorrow may stay for the night, but joy comes in the morning.
