In Matthew 22, Jesus tells parables to explain God’s kingdom. One is about a wedding banquet where many are invited, but only those who are ready and willing can enjoy the feast. He also answers tricky questions from religious leaders. When asked which command is greatest, He makes it clear that everything hangs on loving God fully and loving people deeply. In Matthew 23, Jesus speaks strongly to the religious leaders because they care more about appearances than truly helping people. He teaches that real greatness is found in being humble and serving others, not in trying to look important. He longs for the people of Jerusalem to turn to Him, like a mother gathering her chicks under her wings. This picture reminds us of His deep desire to protect, comfort, and restore. In Matthew 24, Jesus talks with His disciples about the future. He tells them that difficult times will come, but His followers should stay alert and faithful, not fearful. He compares His return to lightning flashing across the sky, something nobody can miss. Even though nobody knows the exact day or hour, He urges us to be ready, living each moment as if today could be the day. Psalm 52 contrasts people who trust in their own strength with those who trust in God’s love. While the proud may seem powerful for a time, their plans will fade away. But those who root their lives in God’s mercy will flourish like a green olive tree, steady and fruitful.
