In Matthew 28, early on Sunday morning, two women come to Jesus’ tomb and find it empty. An angel tells them He is alive, and as they hurry to share the news, Jesus Himself meets them with joy.
Meanwhile, the guards try to cover up what happened, but nothing can stop the truth of the resurrection. Jesus later gathers His disciples on a mountain and gives them a mission: go and share the good news with the whole world, baptize, and teach others everything He commanded. He promises to be with them always, to the very end of time.
This chapter reminds us that our faith is not built on death or defeat, but on the living presence of Jesus who walks with us today.
As we finish the book of Matthew, it helps to look back at the man who wrote it. Matthew was once a tax collector, disliked and distrusted by many, yet Jesus called him to follow. That moment of grace shaped everything about him. He never forgot that God chooses people not because they are perfect, but because He has a purpose for them.
In his Gospel, Matthew carefully shows us that Jesus is the promised King, the One the prophets wrote about, the Savior who came for both Israel and the nations. He highlights Jesus’ teaching, His miracles, His sacrifice, and His resurrection, weaving it all together to show that every promise of God finds its yes in Jesus.
Matthew’s story reminds us that God can transform anyone’s life and then use them to point others to His kingdom. His writing invites us to keep walking with Jesus, to live ready, and to carry His good news into the world, just as Matthew himself once did.
In Psalm 54, David prays for help when enemies rise against him. Instead of panicking, he turns to God with trust, believing that the Lord is his helper and sustainer. The psalm ends with confidence and gratitude, knowing that God will rescue him.
