In Luke 1, the story opens with a miracle. An angel visits Zechariah, a priest, and tells him that his wife Elizabeth, though older, will have a baby. That child will prepare people’s hearts for the Lord. Then the same angel visits Mary, a young woman in Nazareth, announcing that she will give birth to Jesus, the Son of God. Mary responds with trust and praise.
In Luke 2, Jesus is born in Bethlehem, not in a palace but in a manger, showing that God draws near to us in humility. Angels announce His birth to shepherds, who hurry to see Him and spread the good news.
In Luke 3, John the Baptist begins his ministry, calling people to turn their hearts back to God and prepare the way for Jesus. Crowds gather to hear him, longing for a fresh start. Jesus Himself comes to be baptized, and as He prays, the heavens open, the Spirit comes down like a dove, and the Father’s voice declares His love and approval.
Why was Jesus baptized if He was God? Scientifically, baptism is a symbol, not a cleaning of the body. Jesus didn’t need it for Himself, but He chose it for four reasons. First, to connect with people and show He was fully human. Second, to set an example for His followers. Third, to mark the start of His mission. His baptism was like a public announcement that His work had begun. His baptism wasn’t about His own need, but about showing the world who He was and why He came.
Psalm 61 is a heartfelt prayer from someone who feels far away and overwhelmed. The writer calls out to God as a strong tower and safe shelter. They long to stay close to Him forever, trusting that God will protect and lead them. It’s a beautiful reminder that when life feels too heavy or when we feel alone, God is our rock.
