Imagine, while Moses is with God receiving the Ten Commandments (Exodus 32), the Israelites worship a golden calf. Angered, Moses destroys the calf and breaks the sacred tablets. Amazing what anger can do. The Levites respond, and judgment falls on those persisting in rebellion. We can all understand the attraction of instant gratification. We do what feels good at the time, independent of the consequences. Be careful in those thoughtless times to not put anything before God.
God instructs Moses to lead the people toward the Promised Land but warns that His presence will not go with them because of their sin (Exodus 33). The Israelites mourn this news, understanding the emptiness of achieving success without God. That is a great question to think about. What is success without God? How does it feel?
God calls Moses back to Mount Sinai to rewrite the stone tablets, after he broke them in chapter 32. This act symbolizes a renewed covenant with Israel despite their failure. Moses returns radiant from being in God’s presence. You and I too shine differently when close to God.
Many times, we can be misunderstood. Through Psalm 26, we are inspired to examine ourselves and remain firm in our faith. David pleads for God’s vindication. He commits to living a life of integrity and worship.
Psalm 27 expresses unwavering trust in God’s protection, even in the face of fear and enemies. David’s confidence in seeking God as his light and salvation shows his deep faith amid adversity. When looking for shelter from a storm, do we look to God? We should.
