At the beginning of 1 Corinthians 10–12, Paul is still in Ephesus on his third missionary journey, continuing to guide the believers in Corinth through their growing pains as a young church. Though he’s far away, his heart is close to them. Paul feels a mix of love, concern, and urgency as he writes, knowing that the people of Corinth face daily temptations in a city filled with idols, wealth, and distractions. He wants them to stay strong, to remember that being part of God’s family means living differently, with love and humility.
In 1 Corinthians 10, Paul reminds the believers about the history of God’s people. He tells them how Israel once made mistakes in the wilderness by chasing after idols and forgetting God’s faithfulness. Paul warns them not to repeat those choices, reminding them that every temptation has a way out if they look to God for strength. He also teaches them that even ordinary things, like eating and drinking, should be done for God’s glory. His message is clear: when we keep God first, our choices bring life to us and to others.
In 1 Corinthians 11, Paul gives instructions about worship and communion. He reminds the church that when they gather to share the Lord’s Supper, it’s not just a meal. Iit’s a sacred moment to remember Jesus’ sacrifice. Paul wants them to treat each other with kindness and respect, especially the poor and those often left out. It’s a call to slow down, to honor Christ, and to make sure everyone feels included at the table.
In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul talks about spiritual gifts. He explains that every believer has been given something special from the Holy Spirit to help build up the church. Some people teach, others serve, heal, or encourage, but all are part of one body working together. Just like hands, eyes, and feet each have a purpose, every person in God’s family is needed and valuable. Paul’s teaching reminds us that unity doesn’t mean being the same. It means working together in love to show the world what Jesus is like.
In Psalm 94, the psalmist cries out for God’s help when the world feels unfair. It’s a prayer of trust that even when evil seems loud, God’s justice and comfort are stronger.
