
In chapter 19, God commands the sacrifice of a red heifer, using its ashes to purify those defiled by death, emphasizing the need for spiritual cleansing. Animal sacrifice is a thing of the past, what could you sacrifice to cleanse spiritually?
In chapter 19 is not stress-free. Both Moses’ siblings die. Moses is punished for his disobedience and receives the news that he will never enter the Promised Land. Additionally, the people of Edom don’t want the Israelites traipsing through their land. Out of respect for their ancestor Esau, Jacob’s brother, the Israelites have to take a longer route.
In Chapter 21, the Israelites continue to complain. They are punished and many die. They also celebrate the defeat of King Sihon and King Og, securing victories that prepare them to enter the Promised Land.
Psalm 46 is a powerful declaration of God’s protection and strength in times of trouble. It emphasizes that no matter how chaotic the world becomes is our refuge and fortress. I don’t know about you, but the world seems mighty chaotic at the moment. Glory to God for the peace he provides.
