In Numbers 35, God commands the Israelites to set aside cities for the Levites and six cities of refuge. The cities of refuge were like an ancient witness protection program, offering safety for those who accidentally killed someone. If they reached the city in time, they’d get a fair trial instead of facing revenge.
Zelophehad’s daughters are mentioned in Numbers 27. Their father, Zelophehad, died without sons, leaving his family without a male heir to inherit his land in the Promised Land. In Numbers 36 the issue was revisited. God offers up a solution showing His fairness and attention to detail.
In Psalm 52, David confronts the wickedness of Doeg the Edomite. There is enough evil in the world to go around. We will all be confronted with betrayal and injustice. How we deal with it is a demonstration of the depth of our relationship with God.
