Day 61 - Deuteronomy 24-27, Psalm 61

Deuteronomy 24 touches on laws about divorce, protecting the poor, treating workers fairly, and showing kindness to foreigners, widows, and orphans. God leads His people to be just in lending, paying wages on time, and ensuring that even those in debt are treated with dignity. God is in every detail and part of every one of our decisions.

Deuteronomy 25 continues the theme of justice. It includes laws about fair treatment in legal matters, ensuring that punishments fit the crime, and that people are not humiliated beyond what is just. It is great to see that even when the opportunity presents itself God always pushes us away from humiliation and treats us with dignity. We should do the same.

In Deuteronomy 26, God orders Israel to bring the first fruit of their harvest as an offering, acknowledging His provision and faithfulness. When we give in tithing, we support God’s plan and show obedience and trust in what He wants to do.

In Deuteronomy 27, Moses commands the people to write the law on stones as a permanent reminder of God’s commands. Where would you write God’s law if your goal was to have it ever present and never forget it?

Psalm 62 is a declaration, David, of unwavering trust in God as the only true source of strength and security. With so many things we think are essential, reminding ourselves that there is only one source for everything we need, can make the list a lot shorter and much more attainable.
