Today we read the book of Ruth. This short but powerful book highlights God’s plan developing in the most unimaginable ways and the genealogy of King David, which ultimately leads us to Jesus.
The book of Ruth (Ruth 1-4) takes place at some point during the book of Judges (roughly between 1375–1050 BC). It follows Ruth, a Moabite widow, who chooses to remain loyal to her Israelite mother-in-law, Naomi. Despite facing loss and uncertainty, Ruth steps out in faith, leaving her homeland to seek refuge under the God of Israel.
Through divine guidance, Ruth meets Boaz, a kind and righteous man who she later marries. They have a son named Obed. Obed is the grandfather of King David. Their union not only restores Naomi’s family line but also becomes part of God’s greater plan, as their descendant, King David, ultimately leads to Jesus Christ.
This book teaches us to wait patiently for our purpose to develop in our lives. We might not always see everything clearly but remaining connected to God will guarantee results.
Psalm 77 is a powerful reflection on faith in times of distress. The psalmist, Asaph, begins with a deep cry to God, feeling overwhelmed and abandoned in his suffering. He wrestles with doubt, wondering if God has forgotten him. The tone shifts as Asaph chooses to remember God's past faithfulness. This reflection renews his faith.
The choice to remember who God into us and all that He has done is not always straightforward. We can be blinded by life’s complications. This Psalm reminds us where to find spiritual renewal when we need it.
