1 Samuel 25 introduces us to Abigail. Abigail is married to Nabal. David, on the run from Saul, asks Nabal for food and provisions. Nabal, insultingly, refuses. In response, David prepares to attack. However, Abigail intervenes by bringing gifts to David and apologizing for her husband's foolishness. Nabal dies suddenly, and David, acknowledging God’s intervention, takes Abigail as his wife.
In 1 Samuel 26, David is once again given the opportunity to kill Saul, who is relentlessly trying to take his life. Yet David spares him again. Imagine someone determined to destroy you—yet you choose mercy, not revenge.
In 1 Samuel 27, David flees to the Philistines to escape Saul’s pursuit. He aligns himself with King Achish of Gath, a decision of survival. Although David found himself living outside the covenant land, far from the promises God made to him, he continues to maintain his connection in a challenging time.
Psalm 85 is a heartfelt prayer for renewal. It starts recalling all that God has done. It continues with a passionate plea for restoration. At a crucial point, the psalmist decides to listen to what God has to say.
If today you feel compelled to pray for revitalization do so with an enthusiastic request, but ultimately understand it is your choice.
