Isaiah was born in Judah around 760 BC, and he served as God’s bold spokesperson during the reigns of four kings: Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah. He lived through wild times. Assyria took down the northern kingdom of Israel, while Babylon quietly stirred in the background. Isaiah wasn’t afraid to speak truth to power. He warned kings, comforted the faithful, and became a trusted voice to many. Isaiah was eventually martyred under King Manasseh, but his voice still echoes through history.

Proverbs 1 sets the stage for the entire book. It tells us that these sayings are from Solomon and their purpose is to teach wisdom, discipline, and how to live a good, godly life. Wisdom is pictured like a woman calling out in the streets, offering advice to anyone who will listen. But many ignore her voice.
