Joshua is the new leader of Israel after Moses' death (Joshua 1). God commands Joshua to be strong and courageous, assuring him that He will be with him just as He was with Moses.

Standing on the East side of the Jordan River, Joshua send spies across to the East into the city of Jericho. In Joshua 2, Rahab, a Canaanite woman, hides the two Israelite spies from capture. Because of her faith in God, she and her family are promised safety when Israel conquers the city. Rahab’s connection to God is an incredible testimony of how far God’s voice and influence can reach.

In Joshua 3, the Israelites prepare to cross the Jordan River. When the priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant step into the water, the river miraculously stops flowing, allowing the people to cross on dry ground. This is another reminder of how we need to call on God for help when our load becomes too heavy. He will know what to do.

After the Israelites miraculously crossed the Jordan River on dry ground, God commanded Joshua to have one man from each of the twelve tribes take a stone from the riverbed (Joshua 4). These twelve stones were set up as a memorial at Gilgal to remind future generations of God's power and faithfulness in bringing them into the Promised Land. Setting up reminders in our own lives can bring our thoughts back to God when we have gone astray.

Psalm 65 is a beautiful song of thanksgiving that praises God for His grace, power, and provision. God is our provider in every sense of the word. He provides for us spiritually through grace and connection. He also provides for us physically in body and environment. When you feel like something is missing in your life, no matter what it is, God is the answer.
