Aug 21, 2024 – Day 86 - How do I know it is God?
In a world full of stimulus, it is increasingly harder to distinguish the voice of God in our lives. Prayer for many is a form of one-way communication. A performance of sorts. We do what we do, say what we say to an almighty God, but many of us do not expect any feedback.
Those of us that yearn for a response many times hear the voice of our wounds. A mother that is too severe, a husband that is particularly loud, a girlfriend that is hypercritical, our own internal voice struggling with self-esteem. The voices get louder and drown out His voice. We take a step back from our relationship with Him. We lose faith little by little. We harden.
We are all looking for an answer. How can I move from one-way communication to two-way communication? How can I move from a performance to interpersonal relationship?
Stuck with a hardened heart in the middle of a fast paced, modern world, we need to learn to listen for His voice.
His voice is soft and kind. It can feel like a gut feeling. It can sound like a whisper. It can feel like a breeze. It resembles a moment of pause, where an idea becomes a solution. He is the voice that brings peace. When you come upon it, you know it is right. The solution He provides is often simple. Everything God suggests you are fully capable of doing. It is a guarantee because God is good and knows you deeply. He causes no fear. No threats. No conditions.
Take a moment and try it. Sit quietly and in prayer. Ask and He will answer. Don’t expect His voice to be as loud as your trouble. You really have to actively listen. When you hear Him, you will know it is Him. You will feel a flutter in your soul. You will feel loved. You will feel at peace. You will feel strong. Take what he says and follow it. He will lead you out and into the only relationship you will ever need.
