In the after math of Mother’s Day I am left thinking about why a mother is so special. Of course there is the pain she went through to bring us into the world that humbles us. The sacrifices she has made by putting our needs before her own every time. The closest representation of God’s love we have here on Earth.
But there is something else…something I am not taking into account… yes, all those things are true but…
FORGIVENESS. My mom will always forgive me and yours will too. A mother will love her children no matter what, despite their mistakes and in light of their flaws.
The enduring love that a mother has for her children revolves around forgiveness. She forgives even before we say, “I’m sorry”. She forgives even before we make the mistake.
We cherish and honor that level of devotion because it can only be found one other place…through our personal relationship with God.
We see countless examples of forgiveness in the bible.
FORGIVE - Ephesians 4:32 - Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
NO MATTER WHAT - Luke 6:37 Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven.
ALWAYS - Luke 17:4 If he sins against you seven times in the day, and turns to you seven times, saying, 'repent,' you must forgive him.
UNTIL THE VERY END - Luke 23:34 - Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.
Yet it is so hard! We carry resentment and harbor grudges. Even against our better judgement we can’t let it go. We can’t forgive. Slowly, life moves forward, and the weight of the bitterness hardens our hearts.
Give yourself the gift of FORGIVENESS. They probably don’t deserve it…you’re right, but you need it! Let your heart live free. Allow your life to move forward. Let God be your example and FORGIVE.
