Josephs family returns to Egypt for more grain (Genesis 43). Still unaware that Joseph is their long-lost brother, Joseph makes a strange request. He wants to see his younger brother Benjamin. They share the same mother and their connection was strong. Joseph’s brother they would not get more gain unless Benjamin made the trip to Egypt. Against their father’s desires Benjamin journeyed to Egypt.
Joseph hatches a plan to keep Benjamin in Egypt. He places a silver cup in his satchel and paints him a thief. By keeping Benjamin retained in Egypt, his brothers would have to return for his big reveal. (Genesis 44).
Once his whole family arrived, Joseph made himself known. They embraced him and caught up. The Pharoh offered land and riches to Joseph’s family. This is how the 12 tribes of Isreal (Jacob) ended up in Egypt.
In Psalm 14, David commiserates with a shared feeling amongst people. We often forget about God and do wrong, but God is always watching and looking for those who follow Him. Even when the world feels messy, God is still in control.
In Psalm 15, David wonders who gets to live close to God. The answer? Those who do good, speak the truth, and treat others kindly. Living God’s way brings us closer to Him.
To finish todays reading, Psalm 16, David finds joy and safety in God, trusting Him completely. He says life with God is the best and feels like pure happiness.
