In 2003, my family bought a piece of land in a rural part of Tela, Atlantida. A beach town, home to the Garifuna people.
The Garifuna people of Tela are descendants of Afro-Indigenous communities. They have rich cultural heritage. Starting with their own language, Garifuna, vibrant music and dance, and strong traditions in food.
It is hard for new commers to fully integrate into their community because of their incredibly tight knit cultural bonds. They have sadly, undergone different forms of abuse over time that have made them apprehensive.
I am lucky to have been a resident in their community for decades. They know me and they have seen me grow up. Navigating the complex layers of belonging is not always easy.
When God called me to serve as a missionary in this community it all made sense. His perfectly woven plan, once again, proves to amaze me.
This was always where I was meant to be.
The amount of coordination and effort to get me to where I am today, is overwhelming to think about.
I am humbled to my very core that He loves me this much.
To better serve this community, and the surrounding communities, we are building a community center.
We need to raise $6500 dollars total.
