July 22, 2024 – Day 56 – A little grace is all we need

Claudia, an English student of mine, is doing beautifully in class. She comes to class on time. She does her homework, and she practices at home. Nancy, another English student, is struggling a bit more than Claudia. She comes to class a few minutes late every day because she rushes home from work to connect.

Claudia’s internet connection is strong. She has the new Star link antenna that Elon Musk has on the market. Nancy connects to class via her cellphone’s data plan. She is planning on getting WIFI at her house as soon as she gets her next promotion.

Claudia sits at her desk in her office and receives class on her computer. She keeps her camera on, and she looks confident. Nancy sits outside because the signal is better out there, and it is quieter than inside her house. She keeps her camera off. Trying to learn freely and look decent while learning on a cellphone is a task.

Claudia is 25 years old. So is Nancy. Claudia has a full-time job. So does Nancy. Claudia is married to a great guy. So is Nancy. Claudia has two children. So does Nancy.

Claudia needs English to be able to communicate when she travels.

Nancy needs her English to get a job at a call center. They are offering twice what she is used to earning. They also offer a discount at the university. Nancy has always wanted to be a lawyer. With her new job, she could pay for the education she has dreamt of. She would also be able to buy a small car. She has her eyes on her uncle’s 2005 Toyota Corolla. With her new job and new car, she could put her kids in a bilingual school. She doesn’t want them to go through what she has gone through.

When a starting line is a defining line. Lean on grace. When it really isn’t fair, but it is what it is. Lean on grace. When you think you know, you know you are wrong. Lean on grace. When you got it figured out, you’re not even close. Lean on grace.

One day you might meet Claudia and compliment her on her English. She works very hard to perfect it, and she deserves every compliment. One day you might meet Nancy, and you might ask how long have you been studying English? Trying to measure if she deserves praise or needs motivation. Nancy…she deserves grace.
