July 26, 2024 – Day 60 - *Wilbur*

I have a new puppy. Something that I instantly regretted.

I am in love with efficiency and organization. I like a clean house and I feel good when my house smells fresh. All these things, I have been deprived of in the last few days.

Wilbur is a puppy. He has only been in training for five days. I can’t blame him. I have tried to explain to him that he needs to behave to find a good family that will adopt him. He pretends not to understand. I think he is trying to finagle his way into staying here.

That is not happening. My family and I travel too much. We are committed to Wilbur for exactly 6 weeks. He is in puppy training. At the end of the 6 weeks, August 23rd, he goes to his new family or back to the shelter.

I am not sure what I would do with the puppy toys and dog bed I purchased. Maybe give away the leash, the bowls and the treats. I’ll figure out where to put his crate.

I think the 23rd is a Friday. No one will want to pick him up on a Friday. We can wait till Monday the 26th. A new family starting off the week with a new puppy. Perfect.

I am not sure if they will get him. He likes his food warmed up in the microwave for 30 seconds. I hope they have a microwave.

He won’t sleep on the cold floor. He likes, at the very least, a warm towel. He doesn’t like loud noises. He is scared of the broom. I am not sure what type of trauma he has but growing up on the streets were hard on him. I know it. You can see it in his eyes.

Yeah, he might pee on the floor occasionally, but that is because you did not take him out. He cries when he is alone, but so do I. Wilbur is a good dog. It would be sad to have to take him back to the shelter. Hopefully I find the perfect family.

I have thought about it, I could keep him an extra week if necessary. What are 7 days in the course of a lifetime. I have to find the ideal family with the right fit. A mom with strict discipline but a kind heart. Young boys to tussle with. A big yard to run around in.

It will be hard…he can stay here in the meantime.
