As all my missionary friends know, our kids miss the USA. They might not want to live there full time, but they miss a few of the perks that life there has to offer—Amazon overnight delivery, theme parks, sports events, concerts. They miss the roads… okay, maybe that’s me. They miss the AC… wait, that’s definitely me again.

My son David misses the skate parks. He’s gotten pretty good at it! Skateboarding is challenging. If you don’t believe me, get your 30+ year tukus and stand on one. Make sure to check that your health insurance is up to date before doing so.

When we returned to Honduras from our last trip to Florida, my son was so excited to be home—but he was leaving his skate park behind.

We searched high and low, and there really isn’t much of an option near us. But God answers even the most unhinged requests. While we were in San Pedro Sula picking up supplies at our local PriceSmart, there it was—a skateboard! There was no way I could say no.

With the skateboard at home, the new challenge was where to use it. Where we live, even cars have trouble coming in and out—no chance for skateboarding. The search continued. We went to play paddle at a golf course about ten miles from our house: INDURA, Honduras (look it up!). A paddle coach was offering a free kids’ class, and we couldn’t miss the opportunity.

While we were there, my son took life’s lemons and made some first-class lemonade. He asked the supervisor in charge of the golf course if he could use the golf cart paths to practice his skating. I know some of you avid golfers probably don’t agree with this—but you’re not at INDURA, so it’ll be okay. 😄

On his very first time out, he completed the path on the first nine holes. Since you can’t always have the skate park you want, God will give you the skate park you deserve.

I love the God I serve. 💛
