Rule of Life Day 8 – 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Brandon Sanderson said it best, “Expectations are like fine pottery. The harder you hold them, the more likely they are to crack”.

What are your expectations when you read 1 Corinthians 13:4-7?

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

If you are like me, you pull out your ruler and start measuring everyone in your life. Does he love me? Does he not? Does she love me? Does she not?

If I have learned anything over the years about love, it would be that the only guarantee we have in love is that NO ONE PERSON will ever love you, forever and always with the love described in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7.

If you are looking for that kind, never ending, self-sacrificing, passionate, perseverant, deep, trusting, wholesome type of love – don’t look for it in another person, you won’t find it.
